The fire rating of a building indicates just how well its ceiling is able to slow the spread of a fire. Ceilings are particularly important barriers as they curtail the progress of a fire throughout a building.
However, when we create holes in our ceilings in which to install recessed downlights, it reduces its fire-retardant ability, allowing oxygen through which feeds the flames.

Ultimately, this jeopardises the fire rating of the ceiling. So, in many cases a fire rated downlight is the best and only way to go! This is where our fire rated LED lights come in handy!
